St Olcan's PTA Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to returning families and a huge welcome to all new families, we hope your children are settling in well, especially in the current situation.
We are a group of parents, friends, and teachers of St Olcan’s who usually meet approximately 3 times a year to discuss and arrange fundraising events. In previous years these have included helping and arranging raffles, school discos, fetes, Holy Communions and Confirmations as well as bigger social events like bingo nights which we hope also brings the school together in an informal setting. The group has proved a great opportunity for parents, especially those new to the school, to get involved in school events and make new friends. The money we raise is becoming more and more essential for the quality of your child’s education. Not only is it subsidising fun events and trips but is providing funds for computers and laptops which the school is unable to provide under current budget stresses. Clearly, it will be different this year, but I would encourage you to get involved and we will try hard to keep an important part of our special school running.
At St Olcan’s we are extremely fortunate in having many generous friends and families and our close-knit community supports us well. However, for the events and activities to raise the necessary funds, we need to
form a committee. On Thursday 15th October 2020 at 7PM we will hold our virtual AGM and a new committee will be elected. In addition to the key roles of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer we would like to encourage each year group to have a representative and be a named volunteer on the committee. This person does not have to come to all meetings or indeed help at all events but will act as a liaison between the committee and the parents. This year we obviously must do things differently. Our AGM will be held virtually through Zoom. Please inform me or a member of staff that you will attend the virtual meeting and then an email can be sent with the details for you to access the meeting. The meeting will last no longer than 1 hour.
Fundraising will be a challenge, but I hope that we can be creative and innovative with our ideas and keep raising funds. After the formal part of the meeting we will have a short discussion on possible ideas that can be done within the current guidelines.
I look forward to seeing you all… virtually!
Yours Sincerely
Jenny Maginn (Chair)
